I was shocked to see how much the retired scenes and settings are going for on eBay. Does anyone know offhand how much the scenes and settings cost originally?
I hope AG has future plans to re-introduce these because they are excellent teaching tools and encourage purchases of the furniture and accessories.
I also think that it would nice for AG to make a smaller scale scenes and settings for each of the dolls, particularly since the huge dimensions of the scenes and settings are difficult for many children to handle.
Any other scenes and settings fans out there????

I thought they were originally around $40 or $44, but I guess if they were originally $55, some of the e-Bay prices are not that out of line. I don't forsee AG bringing them out of retirement. They are huge! I like them a lot, but I don't own any. I bought Samantha's for my niece a few years ago when I found it at the Madison sale for $15. She has since "outgrown" AG and I've thought about asking her if I could buy it back - but I thought that would be sort of tacky.

I think they were originally $48 & $55, as bizarre as that sounds. I have catalogues from around the same time period showing both prices.
I love the scenes so much! Yes, they're pricey now, but that's usually a factor of their condition. If you can tolerate a few scratches, you can get most for the original price or even below. I won a mislabled auction for Kirsten's--brand new--for like $40. Just keep your eyes peeled!

I've seen some go for less than $40, but the shipping will cost you at least $10 or more. Addy's tends to go for less. There seems to be more of them for sale.

I love the scenes and settings- I have Kirsten's and it's beautiful. It really helped make things "real" for the kids in the classes I've done presentations for too. I really want Felicity's, but they're harder to come by and more expensive. I hope to get Addy's as well. I sure wish Josie had them... hers would have been gorgeous!

I think they first sold at $60. I remember seeing them and thinking they were really neat, but too expensive. Then I believe they went down to $48 or $40 and finally, when they were being retired, they were $25. (At least that's what I remember --I may have to go back and check some catalogues.)

Yes, they were $55 in the 1997 catalog, and they did go on sale at AGPC, for $25, in about 1998 or 1999, when they were retiring them.
In my opinion, it wouldn't work very well for AG to reissue them in a smaller size. For me, the whole point of why they were attractive was that they were on the exact same scale as the dolls were. So that way, the dolls and the furniture and accessories fit in them perfectly. It was like having a doll house in the right scale. And playing with them (the Scenes and Settings) made it possible for the human person to enter in to their world in an even more intimate and like-real way than we could without them.
